The difference between Master and non-Master cameras is that Master units have an additional Logitech HomePlug router that connects to your Internet router for Web access. Setting up a functional home security system requires one “Master” system and up to five add-on cameras. Logitech Alert cameras are categorized as either “Master Systems” or “Add-On Cameras” on the company’s website. An integrated microphone can capture audio, and all data is stored on a micro-SD card. All cameras have 130-degree wide-angle lenses, and they record at 15fps, with 960×720 resolution. A number of camera types are available, including weatherproof outdoor units and indoor units that come with night vision capabilities. The Logitech Alert lineup allows home owners to build a video security system that can consist of a single camera or scale up to a maximum of six cameras. The system uses HomePlug networking, which combines data and power cords into one cable, and a motion-triggered recording feature helps maximize available storage capacity.Ĭomponents of the Logitech Alert Security System I completely understand the allure of the Alert systems and the ease of the plug and play, and the investment made if you purchased when this system was in its prime. The Logitech Alert System is a complete home-video security system that can be easily setup and customized based on the needs of each user. If you reach that point, you would be better off starting to migrate to a current POE switch/IP camera platform. I've read reviews that the Comtrend units don't get along well with other brands of powerline adapters on the same circuit, so be cautioned that starting down this path may force you to upgrade multiple adapters to get all of your cameras working. All of the Logitech stuff has been end of life for some time. Please note the Comtrend adapter is for indoor use only, so you'd have to use a flat network cable, probably running thru a window, to your outdoor camera. It would be a cleaner setup than a powerline adapter and a POE injector. Comtrend also makes a powerline adapter that supplies POE, the only manufacturer I have found to date that has this. The adapters are Homeplug AV 1.0, so you'd have to make sure the camera bandwidth does not exceed the adapter specifications. I do not know how much power it supplies though, I could not find any specification sheet for the adapter. I have a Hikvision cube running thru a Logitech adapter. I have 2 indoor Alerts, but you can use the powerline adapter for other IP cameras. Try these steps and reply if working.Īnd NoloC is correct. Logitech video commander software loads properly, displays viewing screen for cameras, displays properly, posts a thumbnail video screen in lower corner but all viewing panes for the normal display are blank. I don't think that is the case anymore, as my cameras will show up in Blue Iris without the Commander software running. In earlier versions of Blue Iris, the Commander software needed to be running to initialize the Logitech powerline adapter before the cameras would show up in Blue Iris. Once you have this information, add your cameras to Blue Iris. You have to do this in the router since the Alert cams are meant to be plug and play so you can't set a static IP with the Logitech software. Then go into your router settings and reserve that IP address. You will need to use the Commander software and run the diagnostics to get the IP address of each camera. Chetwynd, I think I can help, I have Logitech Alert cameras working in Blue Iris.
